I use this lens, The Olympus 50-200 f/2.8-3.5 ED SWD with Olympus E-520 DSLR camera. The results that I got with the E-520 are simply astonishing. It is an improvement when compared to the kit lenses. This lens performs very well, especially in dim lighting conditions. I moved to Tasmania, Australia when I was a teenager. My folks got transferred there with work and so we up and left the States for a new life Down Under. I knew nothing about Tasmania and so before we moved I did a bit of research and discovered that it was an island of great beauty. This got me quite excited, as when I was that age I had a great interest in landscape photography. It didn’t take me long to discover some spectacular places for myself once we arrived. I quickly met a few other guys my age who were into photography and we spent most of our time in the hot Aussie summer visiting some truly beautiful locations. I have since moved back to the States, and I don’t do photography so much anymore but my home is full of images from my time in Tasmania and I always look at them and think of the great times I had there.
Can landscape photography be considered to be art or is it merely a skill of capturing nature as it is.
Well I believe that it can be art but it certainly is not always art, it very much depends on the particular image and the vision of the photographer themselves.
For example a lot of people take pictures of the landscape and indeed call themselves landscape photographers but most of these images are what I would call record shots where they have simply raised the camera to their eye and snapped away to capture the scene with no thought for composition or light.
I do not consider this to be art although some may. However if the photgrapher uses composition and other elements to create an image then I think this consideration for the final image pushes a photo into the art bracket.
By using techniques to affect shutter speed and aperture in order to consciously alter the final image the photographer is making artistic decisions and so his image must be considered an art form.
There will be three family celebrations in the nest few months and I have commissioned a photographer in Charleston to take the photographs. I naturally packed my Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye along with other lenses when I was preparing for my charity trek in Chile. The plan was to walk for two weeks taking in various areas as well as climbing and walking along the Andes.I wanted to have a good pictorial record of the trip to show to my sponsors when I got home. Everyday I used my camera interchanging the lenses as often as I felt like to get the best possible results. I didn’t always have time to check back on the shots I’d taken each day so was looking forward to getting home and going through all of them at me leisure. When I did get home and started looking at what I had taken I was amazed. They brought back so many memories of the fabulous views and scenery, the Chilean people we had met and all the friends I had made on the trip, but most exciting of all were the incredible one off shots taken with the Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye, they were extra special.
